Women in Saudi Arabia are sick of the fact that their
religion interprets that they can’t drive in their home country and have
decided to take a stand. All women able and willing will drive their cars on
October 26 in Saudi Arabia in protest. Creating a web site as a petition, they
have gained over 11,000 signatures. This issue has come up at least twice
before but with no success other than riling up the spirits of the Saudi
Arabian women. Besides being prohibited to drive, women in Saudi Arabia cannot
open bank accounts, work, travel, or go to school without the permission of
their male guardian. Their king, King Abdullah, at the moment is moving towards
change regarding women’s rights, but not fast enough pushing them to take it
into their own hands.

Man loses 245 pounds with the three P's
"I always tell people it's the three p's: persistence, passion and
perseverance," Marlon Gibson said. Gibson had always been a heavy kid. His
grandmother would take him to McDonald’s everyday and from then on Gibson’s
eating habits grew worse and worse. At his heaviest he weighed 405 pounds at
five feet and eleven inches. Being the class comedian, Gibson was never really
teased or bullied which allowed him to stay relatively confident. It wasn't until he saw his wife do an awesome
job on the reality TV show “The Biggest Loser” that he got the ambition.
Instead of turning to unhealthy diets and surgical procedures, Gibson just
started to eat less and eventually cut out all the bad food he usually ate. Turning
completely vegan, Gibson has successfully lost a total of 245 pounds and is at
a healthy weight of 160. He is not only keeping his weight down but also
keeping his healthy ritual of diet and exercise up.

Thousands evacuated after volcano eruption in Indonesia
On Sunday Mount
Sinabung erupted in Jakarta, Indonesia. Mount Sinabung has an altitude of about
2,600 meters and is the highest mountain in North Sumatra. The eruption caused
more than 6,000 people to evacuate the area. It covered North Sumatra, the
province on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, in ash. The inhalation of the ash
caused five people to suffer from breathing problems, but luckily there were no
casualties. The evacuees took shelter in eight main evacuation centers. They
were given rice and some of them actually returned to their homes momentarily
to make sure their farms and livestock were doing okay. They then returned to
the evacuation center.

Fan falls, dies at Candlestick Park
On Sunday September 8th, Kevin Hayes at the age of 32 fell to his death at the 49ners vs. Packers football game. He seemed to be intoxicated as he fell to a sidewalk. The team's spokesman expressed the teams condolences to the family through an e-mail. Sadly, Hayes' death wasn't the only serious incident that day. At the Colts' game a railing collapsed, seriously injuring two fans. And across America there have also been more than two dozen incidents of fans falling at stadiums since 2003. After this season the 49ners sports complex will be closed and in its place will be shopping center. The 49ners will then be moving into their $1.2 billion stadium in Santa Clara.

'Never, ever give up:' Diana Nyad completes historic Cuba-to-Florida swim
On Sunday
night Diana Nyad, at age 64, finished the 103 mile long swim from Cuba to
Florida in 53 hours breaking any and all records held previously. With a dream
of this long swim with her since she was eight years old, Nyad had never been
able to succeed it until now. Trying four times prier many obstacles got in her
way making her unable to finish. These obstacles included extremely rough seas
that caused her delirium, a serious lightning story, an 11-hour long asthma
attack and many brutal jellyfish stings. Going into the latest swim Nyad had
already decided that this was going to be her last try and she absolutely
needed to finish. With a team of 35 people helping her along in various ways and many more cheering for her she finally reached her goal. By doing this she hoped to be an inspiration to
us all and wanted to leave us with "…three
messages. One is we should never, ever give up. Two is you never are too old to
chase your dreams. Three is it looks like a solitary sport, but it's a team."
